USGS warns that Hurricanes Helene and Milton may have spread over 200 invasive species across Florida and Georgia.

In addition to recovering from the devastation of hurricanes Helene and Milton, which hit Florida 13 days apart, the state, and other southeastern states may soon be grappling with more than 200 invasive species.

According to the Hurricane Milton interactive map, the giant applesnail has the potential to spread to Central Florida locations such as Little Wekiva River, Konomac Lake-Saint Johns River, Tick Island Mud Lake-Saint Johns River, and Pecan Lake.

According to USGS officials, many of these species likely entered the Bay area through flood waters from the recent storms.
