The White House posted the message “Rest in Peace, Pope Francis” on social media with Vice President JD Vance being one of the last foreign dignitaries to have an audience with the Pope.

In a spectacular procession through the city of Rome, Pope Francis’ coffin was transported from St. Peter’s Basilica to his final resting place at Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist is being read at the funeral of Pope Francis -- which is where bread and wine are consecrated, becoming the body and blood of Jesus Christ. It is a central act of worship in the Catholic church where believers and worshippers participate in the eternal sacrifice of Christ.
