A late summer heatwave has a firm grip across North Texas. High temperatures will be well above normal through Saturday with highs in the upper 90s and an afternoon heat index around 100-105. The cause of the heat is a strong heat dome centered over Texas into the weekend.

The unseasonable heat is caused by high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere expanding out of Mexico.
