Israel’s security cabinet is convening Friday to decide whether to approve a deal that would release dozens of hostages held by militants in Gaza and pause the 15-month-war. If the cabinet approves, the deal will then go to the government for the final sign-off.

The Israeli security cabinet has recommended approving the Gaza ceasefire and hostage return deal, ahead of a full cabinet meeting expected later on Friday, a statement from the prime minister's office said.

Negotiators from Israel and Hamas have reached a final agreement on the deal, though the Israeli cabinet and coalition government have yet to approve it.

Israel's government now needs to vote on the deal. If it's approved, it would be expected to be implemented on Sunday.
