The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr. has died from injuries received in the Magic City Classic last month. Burnett, 20, was pronounced dead Wednesday at 5:43 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama A&M football player Medrick Burnett, Jr. has passed away. A report from Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Matt Angelo stated Medrick Burnett Jr. died at UAB Hospital Wednesday evening at 5:43 p.m.

Burnett, 20, was pronounced dead on Wednesday at 5:43pm, according to a coroner's report. Earlier that morning, Alabama A&M had announced Burnett's death, but the press release was later retracted after the university learned that he was still alive and on life support.
