Police raced to the scene of a crash on the M6 when a car flipped over onto its roof - one lane of the motorway has been closed as officers carry out an investigation

One lane of the M6 has been closed on the northbound carriageway between junctions 18 and 19 - after a car crashed and flipped onto its roof. The incident is causing delays on the motorway in Cheshire for traffic heading north towards Lancashire, LancsLive reports.

Police have warned a stretch of the M6 will remain closed for 'a number of hours' following a serious collision in North Staffordshire. Emergency services had descended on the southbound carriageway at around 10.20pm last night where at the height of the incident the motorway was shut off in both directions.

The M6 southbound in Staffordshire is closed on Friday after a fatal crash in which a car hit a lorry driver who had left his cab. Ambulance Service said it was called at 21:55 GMT on Thursday to the southbound carriageway between junction 16 for Crewe and junction 15 near Newcastle-under-Lyme.
