Unfortunately, Bailey failed to replicate his form last season. As such, he appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park, opening the door for a move to AS Roma. According to Frabrizio Romano, the move is nearing completion, with Roma agreeing to pay $2.3 million in a loan fee, with a $25.6 million option to buy.
Bailey will join on an initial loan, with Roma holding an option to buy the Jamaica international for around £19 million. Villa will receive a loan fee of roughly £2.5 million, taking the total potential value of the deal to £22 million.
As reported by The Athletic, Bailey will not be included in Unai Emery’s squad for Villa’s Premier League opener vs Newcastle, given ongoing negotiations between Aston Villa and Roma. Bailey has sidelined interest from several clubs, including Besiktas, and is determined to finalize the deal with Roma today so he can move to the capital.
Aston Villa are set to make matters worse after the contentious sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle after struggling against the Magpies.
