The Council of the District of Columbia voted in favor of legislation to revamp Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C., as the city looks to have all its sports teams within the district limits.

Council members approved a bill that would see D.C. offer up about $515 million to buy and renovate Capital One Arena, with the ownership group putting up the remaining cash to complete the $800 million project.

The council passed legislation to create a stream of revenue for upgrades and fixes at Nationals Park, and advanced a package of $515 million for a Capital One Arena renovation.

The D.C. Council on Tuesday tentatively approved a bill that would enable the District to acquire Capital One Arena from Monumental Sports & Entertainment, launch a massive renovation and lock-in the Washington Wizards and Capitals as long-term tenants.
