Under gray skies with patriotic music blaring in the background, construction crews on Tuesday put up a border wall on land the state recently bought and offered to the incoming Trump administration to use for deportation facilities.

Ranchers, Border Patrol officers, vigilantes and migrants believe that Donald Trump’s second presidency is bringing a border crackdown. And most of the people we met in southern Arizona say they’re excited to see it.

On Tuesday morning in Starr County, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced the “Jocelyn initiative,” which is a plan by Buckingham to lease some of Texas’s 13 million acres of land to the incoming administration to help them secure the Southern border.

The land offer highlights the divide between states and local governments on supporting or resisting Trump's mass deportation plans.

The race to secure the southern border seems to have already started before the President-Elect is sworn into office.
