Two years after Celtic's finest moment in 1967, came Slovan Bratislava's greatest day. The Slovak giants, then part of the former Czechoslovakia, slayed the great Barcelona at Basel's St Jakob Stadium in 1969 to lift the Cup Winners' Cup, their solitary European honour to date.

Slovan Bratislava have qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, becoming just the fourth Slovakian side to play in the competition, after FC VSS Kosice in 1997/98, FC Petrzalka 1898 in 2005/06 and MSK Zilina in 2010/11 (all of whom went out at the group stage).

Celtic have been backed to take advantage of the newly revamped Champions League format by Chris Sutton, who suggests the Hoops have an ‘enormous’ opportunity to secure early points against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.
