Inter Milan CEO Guiseppe Marotta has revealed he narrowly missed out on signing a teenage Erling Haaland during his time at Juventus.

Haaland is also on the cusp of scoring 100 goals in all competitions for City, just two years after he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund for £51m. He has 99 strikes to his name from 103 games played – his Premier League goal record now standing at 72 from just 70 appearances.

Erling Haaland could miss Manchester City ’s meeting with Brentford this weekend as the club have granted him compassionate leave, should he wish to take it, after the death of a close family friend. It is yet to be confirmed whether the Norwegian striker will take the club up on their offer following the death of Ivar Eggja.
