Claims are pointing that Sony is currently developing a new portable console, capable of playing PlayStation 5 games.

Sony could be following up the release of the PlayStation Portal with a new handheld PlayStation 5 console, according to a new report.

Bloomberg is reporting this morning that Sony is working on a portable version of the PlayStation 5. This comes hot on the heels of news from Microsoft that a portable Xbox is being worked on, and of course ahead of the imminent announcement of the Switch 2. Everyone’s going handheld!

In its heyday, I used the PlayStation Portable (PSP) obsessively, but I haven't been pulled in by other handheld devices — no, not even the Nintendo Switch. That could change in the future as Sony is reportedly developing a new portable console that would offer games directly on-device,

After watching Nintendo dominate the gaming landscape over the last eight years with a hybrid game console, Sony is getting ready to challenge the Switch with a new handheld console of its own. Bloomberg reports that Sony is in the early stages of developing a portable game console capable of playing PS5 games natively.

Sony may be working on a portable version of the PlayStation 5, but it feels like there are already more reasons to write it off than look forward to it.

All three major console platform holders are working on handheld devices.

Sony is currently making a new handheld gaming console that allows users to play PlayStation 5 games anywhere. According to Bloomberg, the console is being developed to compete against Nintendo and Microsoft in the portable gaming market, and is likely “years away from launch” — if Sony decides to release it at all.
