RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A great white shark weighing over 1,400 pounds is lurking off the North Carolina coast.

According to Ocearch, Contender has traveled 2,433 miles in 188 days, when he was first tagged off the Florida/Georgia coast, roughly 45 miles offshore, on Jan. 17.

OCEARCH is a global non-profit working to gather research on shark migration patterns. Contender was first tagged by OCEARCH on January 17 off the coast of the Florida/Georgia line.
