North Aurora police say DNA helped them to close the case of the 1979 murder of Kathy Halle. The perpetrator, Bruce Lindahl, won't be brought to justice because he died just two years later while committing another murder.

North Aurora Police say advanced DNA technology shows that serial killer Bruce Lindahl murdered 19-year-old Kathy Halle, whose body was discovered in the Fox River in April 1979.

NORTH AURORA, Ill. - The murder of a woman in North Aurora 45 years ago has finally been solved. On March 29, 1979, Kathy Halle left her home in North Aurora to pick up her sister from the Northgate Shopping Center but never arrived, according to authorities. For the next three weeks, the case was investigated as a missing persons report.

Halle's body was discovered April 24, 1979, in the Fox River south of the I-88 bridge in North Aurora. She had been missing almost a month. Police now say it was Lindahl who left Halle's body there, and they finally have the DNA evidence to prove it.

Authorities in Illinois will release more information Wednesday on solving a cold case in Kane County. The Kane County State's Attorney, along with the mayor of North Aurora, the police chief and others will share new details connecting long-dead serial killer Bruce Lindahl to a 1979 cold case murder.

Bruce Lindahl has now been linked to the murder of Kathy Halle in 1979. Charlie De Mar spoke with a woman who said she was raped by Lindahl that same year, but escaped.
