On the party’s performance in Maharashtra, Kharge acknowledged that the results were disappointing despite the strong showing in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kharge stressed that the Congress must develop a strategy to counter the “propaganda and misinformation” spread by political rivals and maintain discipline within the party.

As top Congress leaders met on Friday to deliberate on its electoral defeats in Maharashtra and Haryana, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge asserted that "tough decisions" will have to be taken to strengthen the organisation from the grassroots.

During a CWC meeting held at the Congress's headquarters to analyse the party's morale-crushing defeats in both states, Mallikarjun Kharge said that infighting was hurting the grand old party and urged leaders to stop making anti-party remarks.
