Federal, state and city transportation regulators signed off on the MTA’s new congestion pricing program for Manhattan Friday, clearing the final roadblocks ahead of an expected Jan. 5 start to tolling.

The U.S. Transportation Department has approved New York ‘s plan to impose a $9 congestion charge for driving in Manhattan starting on Jan. 5, a move aimed at raising billions for mass transit and cutting traffic.

New York City has received a green light from the Biden administration to implement a retooled congestion pricing program.

Hochul is expected to propose a 40% cut in the tolls already approved by the MTA, bringing the $15 base toll for passenger cars down to $9 per day, and the $3.75 late-night rate down to $2.25.
