While the PlayStation Portal offered a way to play PS5 games remotely, it wasn’t a standalone handheld. In fact, it’s been about 14 years since the PS Vita appeared, and now, according to a report from Bloomberg,

Handhelds are clearly going to continue coming back in a big way, as now even Sony is reportedly developing a proper, non-cloud based portable console.

Sony is developing a new handheld console, which won't rely on other consoles to work like the PlayStation Portal. According to Bloomberg sources, the console is in the early stages of development and is primarily meant to rival the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Microsoft's handheld Xbox.

A credible insider suggests that a big design change in the upcoming Xbox handheld console may allow it to natively run PlayStation games.
