Another powerful storm system is expected to sweep across a wide swath of the United States, bringing heavy rain to Southern California, heavy snow to parts of the West and Midwest and more snow and freezing rain to the Northeast and New England.

Tuesday’s overnight storm dropped 8 inches of snow in Galloway in Atlantic County and 7.8 inches in Cape May, the weather service said. There were widespread totals of 6 inches or more in Atlantic County and lighter snow accumulations in central and northern New Jersey.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The next storm in this persistent pattern of winter weather is set to sweep through New York City this weekend, bringing with it a chance for some snow and rain, according to AccuWeather.
