JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri voters will decide Tuesday whether to give Republican U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley a second term or elect Democrat Lucas Kunce, a lawyer who served in the Marines. Hawley is heavily favored to win in the state, where no Democrats hold statewide office and Republicans control both the state House and Senate.

Sen. Josh Hawley will be returning to D.C. in January. The Associated Press called the Senate race with about half of Missouri votes counted.

While Missouri Republicans continued to dominate statewide and legislative politics, they lost a critical fight over abortion rights.

Since joining the U.S. Senate, Hawley has struck a populist tone, abandoning previous opposition to anti-union “right-to-work” laws and minimum wage hikes. He has defended his decision to object to the certification of the 2020 election.
