WASHINGTON – The day after telling a House subcommittee that the Federal Emergency Management Agency should not be eliminated, Cam Hamilton, FEMA’s acting head, was fired.

In 2024 alone, FEMA responded to more than 100 disasters, including two catastrophic hurricanes, that required Congress in December to approve billions of dollars in additional relief funds.
