Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum thanked her U.S. counterpart Donald Trump for exempting Mexican goods included in the USMCA from being impacted by tariffs
As the deadline to avert Trump tariffs nears, President Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of the USMCA deal and her efforts to save it.
Unlike Canada’s Trudeau, Sheinbaum has been more diplomatic while insisting on protecting Mexican interests. Here’s why.
Following a discussion with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump agrees to exempt Mexican goods from tariffs. Some tariffs on Canadian goods also were delayed.
"Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2. But at the request of the companies associated with USMCA, the president is giving them an exemption for one month, so they are not at an economic disadvantage," she added, referencing the North American free trade agreement Trump renegotiated in his first term.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a post on his Truth Social social media platform that he has agreed to delay 25 percent tariffs on Mexican goods for another month.
