NYPD, City Council and Eric Adams
Though the comptroller disagrees with Mayor Eric Adams on many things, he emphasized one major point of agreement: NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. She took over the department in November, and immediately started cleaning house. Lander came out in full support, promising to keep her in her current position if elected.
The city’s Department of Investigation concluded ex-aide Tim Pearson “abused his authority” during a 2023 clash where he stormed into Touro College respite center in Midtown, shoving a male guard who asked to see his identification then pushing a female guard into a counter.
The scandal-scarred Cuomo and his confidants have been making overtures to crucial New York City labor and business leaders, wooing Black and Orthodox Jewish voters and making inroads with the influential New York Post — amounting to a multi-pronged effort to capitalize on Adams’ pillars of political support as the mayor’s career withers.
The federal case against Mayor Eric Adams has gone through a roller coaster of events since he became the first sitting New York City mayor to be indicted.
The mayor was indicted in September on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery. Prosecutors alleged he accepted illegal campaign contributions and discounted travel from foreign nationals seeking to buy his influence while he was campaigning to become mayor. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
