NEWARK—Another hit in a crucial part of the season. The New Jersey Devils revealed on Wednesday that captain Nico Hischier will be sidelined with an upper-body injury.
Hischier, a center and New Jersey's captain, took a cross-check up high late in the second period of a 4-3 overtime win at the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday and did not play the remaining 2:10 of the period. He returned to the bench to begin the third period and was on the ice for a 36-second shift before returning to the locker room.
Morgan Geekie scored for the Bruins (23-20-6), who are 3-1-1 in their past five games. Jeremy Swayman allowed four goals on 29 shots in two periods. He was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo (five saves on six shots) at the start of the third period.
After creating more far offensive chances than the Bruins, the Devils broke through in the second period with four unanswered goals on 17 shots. This included Stefan Noesen and Dawson Mercer scoring just 12 seconds apart from each other.
