A top Romanian court on Tuesday rejected an appeal by far-right politician Calin Georgescu to lift a ban on his candidacy for the rerun in May of Romania's presidential election, after the same court annulled last year's election in which Georgescu won the first round.

Romanian far-right populist Calin Georgescu has lost his appeal against a ruling barring him from participating in May's presidential election. The Constitutional court issued the final ruling on Tuesday afternoon after deliberating for two hours.

Romania's far right has four days to find a replacement presidential candidate for pro-Russian Calin Georgescu, who is unlikely to succeed on Tuesday in his attempt to overturn a ban on his standing in an election rerun in May.
