Malaysia prepared for its worst floods in a decade after heavier-than-expected monsoon rains caused severe flooding that killed three people and displaced more than 80,000

Three people have died and more than 80,000 have been evacuated from floods across several Malaysian states, the government said on Friday (Nov 29) as officials warned the monsoon season could bring the country's worst flooding in a decade.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - More than 37,000 people have been affected by flooding caused by torrential rain in six Malaysian states this week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Thursday.

Flooding triggered by three days of heavy rain has killed one person and displaced thousands in southern Thailand, with more days of rain forecast, authorities said Thursday.

Severe floods swamped roads as rain battered southern Thailand today. Footage shows streets submerged in the deluge as floodwater surged into homes in Songkhla province on November 28. Residents moved their motorcycles and other belongings to higher ground as continuous torrential downpours caused the water level to rise.

The Golok River, bordering Thailand, has reached its highest level since 1997, with the situation exacerbated by La Niña.
