LEWISTON — At least one man was shot and police were searching for potential other victims Tuesday afternoon after a shooting downtown on Walnut Street. Police who were in the area at the time of the shooting found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound as he fled down Pierce Street toward Pine.

LEWISTON (WGME) -- The Lewiston Police Department says a male is in critical condition after a shooting at the intersection of Walnut and Pierce Streets around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses say the people involved left the scene after several shots were fired. Police at the scene found a male suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

The motive appears to be a combination of factors, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference Tuesday. The suspect, Natalie Rupnow, who went by Samantha, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,

Police said they have been attempting to locate the people responsible for the shooting, but witnesses told them the involved parties had fled the scene.

The Lewiston Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying people who may have been involved in a shooting Tuesday.
