A winter storm could bring more than a foot of snow to parts of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, according to the National Weather Service. Gaylord is expected to get 13-18 inches of snow. Other predictions include 13-21 inches in Mancelona, 5-11 inches in Boyne City and 5-9 inches in Petoskey.

Michigan is getting a combo of cold temperatures and lake effect snow. Here's what to expect around the state:

At least 4-6 inches of snow is expected, with some areas under persistent lake-effect bands seeing as high as 15-30 inches. These highest amounts would occur over the higher terrain of the Copper Country and areas east of Munising and from Seney north.

There's more snow on the way throughout the rest of the day and into tomorrow with lake-effect snow continually trailing into West Michigan. The heaviest snow bands today could bring an additional 3-5" by tomorrow morning.
