Russia’s Foreign Ministry says it has revoked accreditation of two employees of the German ARD broadcaster and ordered them to leave the country, in what it described as a retaliation to German authorities’ move targeting two journalists from Russia’s state TV.

Russia on Wednesday said that it would expel two journalists from Germany's ARD national network in a like for like move after a Russian state broadcaster reported that its journalists had been ordered to leave Berlin.

Germany has not closed the office of Russian broadcaster Channel One. Two journalists were asked to leave due to residency issues, a state matter. Russian journalists remain free to report. The German foreign ministry is communicating with Moscow amid concerns about Russia's treatment of journalists.
