Ukraine and Russia have escalated their shadow war of espionage, sabotage, and assassinations, with both countries claiming a growing list of captured agents, intercepted plots, and cross-border attacks.

Russia launched its largest drone and missile bombardment of Ukraine overnight into Wednesday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Between January and June, the number of Russian drone and missile attacks exceeded 23,000, a roughly 605% increase compared to the same period last year.

Russia launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine of the conflict to date on July 3, days after the Pentagon paused weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

The latest assault included more drones in a single night than Russia used in the entire month of July last year.

US President Donald Trump on July 11 responded to fresh Russian attacks on Ukraine. "You'll see things happening," Trump told reporters before leaving for Texas. Earlier, Trump teased a "major statement" on Russia for July 14.
