Mexico has previously imposed tariffs on countries that it doesn’t have free trade agreements with, President Sheinbaum said.

The new tariffs on imports from all three nations ‒ which are on top of existing taxes and go into effect on Tuesday.

Both Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and Mexican President Sheinbaum said they had agreed to bolster border enforcement efforts in response to Trump's demand to crack down on immigration and drug smuggling.

Starting Tuesday, nearly all imports from Canada and Mexico will be charged a 25% tariff, while goods from China will be charged a 10% tariff.
