New video from a doorbell camera shows moments from the deadly shooting in Garland where an officer was shot and the 23-year-old suspect was killed by police. Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan called Monday morning's incident a "police ambush" in a press conference.

A suspected gunman was killed and a Garland police officer was wounded Monday after a “surreal” shootout spanned roughly two hours and three crime scenes, police Chief Jeff Bryan said at an afternoon news conference.

A Garland police officer is in stable condition at a local hospital after being shot early Monday morning, police say.

Officers responded about midnight to a report of gunshots fired in the 100 block of West Wanda Drive, according to the WFAA report that attributed the account to Garland police. When an officer arrived, the suspect immediately shot him while the officer was in a police vehicle, police said.

The first officer who arrived on the scene was shot while he was still in his vehicle, according to police spokesperson Lt. Pedro Barineau. The officer was able to retreat to safety, and was taken to a hospital. Barineau said more officers then arrived and found the suspect near a home and they shot him.

An officer was shot and wounded in a targeted attack over night. The suspect was shot by Garland officers and died at a local hospital.
