A US man was arrested after prosecutors accused of being responsible for hacking the SEC's social media to post a fake Bitcoin ETF approval.

The hijacked account posted illegitimate news about a widely-anticipated Bitcoin announcement, leading the cryptocurrency to spike some $1,000.

According to court documents, Eric Council Jr went under the aliases Ronin, Easymunny, and AGiantSchnauzer online, and searched "SECGOV hack" and "Telegram sim swap". He is also alleged to have searched "federal identity theft statute" and "how long does it take to delete Telegram account".
