The store was the last full-size Kmart in the United States. The chain is now down to a handful of locations in Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands and a small store in Miami.

NPR reports Seven & I Holdings, the chain’s parent company, announced last week the plan to close 444 stores, which represent only 4% of more than 13,000 locations. The announcement cited “inflation pressures, slowed traffic, a decline in cigarette sales and a shift in consumer appetites,” NPR reports.

Convenience store chain, 7-Eleven will close hundreds of stores. The CEO of 7-Eleven, Joseph DePinto said the company will close 444 underperforming stores. The announcement was made during an earnings call for 7-eleven’s parent company, Seven & i Holdings Co. Ltd.
