Gov. Josh Shapiro criticized President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on almost all imports from Mexico and Canada as picking “a fight with our friends” and warned that they will result in higher prices for Pennsylvania residents.

United States tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports took effect on Tuesday. The levies, set at 25 percent by US President Donald Trump, have been followed by the doubling of duties on Chinese goods to 20 percent. Levies on Canadian energy are limited to 10 percent.

"The reliable, uninterrupted flow of economic power across the Canadian interties is critical to protect the health, safety and welfare of New York citizens ... "
