MEPs have voted to approve a second term for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her new college of commissioners by a comfortable majority.

The European Parliament on Wednesday approved the new European Commission team under Ursula von der Leyen, the commission’s returning president. Following a debate over von der Leyen's new team and program, MEPs elected the College of Commissioners as a whole by a roll call vote of 370-282, with 36 abstentions.

Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday secured European Parliament backing for her new team at the European Commission, paving the way for her to take office at the start of next month amid mounting challenges in Europe and across the Atlantic.

The European Parliament has approved the composition of the new European Commission. 370 members voted in favour of its appointment in the proposed composition, 282 were against, and 36 abstained. The EC composition includes Piotr Serafin,
