Today a group of South Carolina Army National Guard soldiers left for the nation’s capital. Approximately 70 soldiers of around 200 ordered by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster were deployed from the National Guard Armory in Union to support a federal security mission in Washington D.

68 people had been arrested in Washington, DC overnight as part of federal measures to combat crime, including President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to the capital.

Justice Department data, however, showed violent crime in 2024 hit a 30-year low in Washington, a self-governing federal district under the jurisdiction of Congress.
