In just a matter of weeks, many National Grid customers will start getting new smart meters installed at their homes or businesses. Officials with the utility company are announcing the change before it happens so customers know what to expect.

Starting in January 2025, National Grid customers will have the ability to monitor and control energy use for homes and businesses, as the company kicks off its two-year deployment of smart meters across the region.

By the end of 2027, the new meters will be installed throughout Western New York, for about 540,000 customers.

As concerns over higher bills continue for NYSEG customers with smart meters, National Grid is rolling out similar technology for its customers in WNY.
