SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS) — The REAL ID Act establishes stricter security requirements for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards, and if you do not upgrade your ID, you risk not being able to board a domestic flight.
Louisiana travelers will need Real ID to fly beginning in May
Starting May 7, you will need to upgrade your ID to a Real ID in order to board a flight. Dan Casey, the commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles, said just a small percentage of those without Real ID would represent a lot of travelers.

Louisiana residents planning to travel by air will need to meet new federal requirements starting next year.
