New York City is mourning an NYPD officer and three other people killed in Monday night's shooting inside an office building in Midtown Manhattan. Officer Didarul Islam was in uniform working as a security guard for a private company at the time of the shooting,
The Rudin family, which owns the building and Rudin Management, said in a statement that one of their employees was a victim of the shootings but did not disclose the person’s name at the request of relatives. Police officials said a woman was found dead on the building’s 33rd floor in Rudin’s offices.
The last killing of such a scale in the city was during a fast-food restaurant robbery in Queens in 2000. Mass murders of strangers are rare.
