Amazon said April 29 it has made contact with its first 27 operational Project Kuiper broadband satellites, after being dropped off in low Earth orbit by ULA’s Atlas V rocket.

The first 27 satellites for Amazon's Kuiper broadband internet constellation were launched into space from Florida on Monday, kicking off the long-delayed deployment of an internet-from-space network that will rival SpaceX's Starlink.

Amazon successfully launched 27 low-Earth orbit satellites on Monday night as part of Project Kuiper, which will provide satellite broadband services. The launch mission, KA-01 or Kuiper Atlas 1, utilized a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, and began its journey from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
