Hurricane Milton is tearing across Florida. It has flooded the state from coast to coast and knocked out power for more than three million homes and businesses. It spewed tornadoes that killed people far from the storm’s eye, destroyed homes and shredded the roof of the Tampa Bay Rays’ stadium. See a map of the storm’s path.

Hurricane Milton strengthened as it churned through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida on Tuesday and could wallop one of the state’s major population centers with huge storm surges, lashing rain and destructive winds just two weeks after deadly Hurricane Helene swamped the coastline.

Hurricane Milton has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane pulling away from Florida's East Coast. Milton will begin to lose it's tropical characteristics and will weaken back to a tropical storm over the open Atlantic on Friday. The storm is expected to dissipate by the end of the weekend.
