Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is demanding all agencies in the state halt investments in China and sell any current investments in the country as soon as possible.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday issued his third executive order in three days targeting the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party. The orders, Abbott said, were directed toward fighting threats to state security and protecting Texans of Chinese descent from harassment and intimidation by the Chinese Communist Party and government.

The state governor claimed Texans could be in danger due to a "worldwide harassment campaign" launched against dissidents by China.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Monday, directing the Texas Department of Public Safety to target and arrest people trying to execute influence operations on behalf of the Chinese government to return dissidents to China.

The move follows a week of other executive orders aimed at the ruling Chinese Communist Party, including a crackdown on alleged espionage aimed at Texas’ infrastructure and institutions of higher education.

The governor of Texas ordered state agencies to stop investing in China and sell assets there as soon as possible, citing financial and security risks, a sign of rising U.S.-China tensions starting to impact global capital flows.
