A manhunt is under way after two attacks in which another local Democratic politician and his wife were shot and injured, Governor Tim Walz says.

Democratic State House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed on Saturday, allegedly by a man appointed by Walz.

A cryptic message sent to roommates is just one of many unanswered questions surrounding the suspect who remains at large.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Authorities on Saturday asked residents of two Minneapolis suburbs to stay indoors as they searched for a suspect posing as a police officer who shot two Democratic state lawmakers and their spouses in their homes, according to local media reports. The conditions of the victims were not immediately known.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz remembered Melissa Hortman, the Democratic representative who was killed along with her husband in their home in what is being called a 'politically motivated assassination,' during a press conference later that day.
