UK-based Ghanaian musician Fuse ODG has strongly criticised 'Do They Know It's Christmas?', a controversial song by Bob Geldolf’s ‘Band Aid’.

As the iconic charity song Band Aid marks its 40th anniversary, British-Ghanaian artist Fuse ODG has stirred a conversation about the song 39;s portrayal of Africa .

The singers have criticized "They Don't Know It's Christmas" for perpetuating "damaging stereotypes" of Africans as a charity case. Bob Geldof defends the song. We went to Kibera for comments.

In 1984, a group of British and Irish music stars came together to record “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” The song, inspired by Ethiopia’s famine, was spearheaded by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure under the name Band Aid.

GRAMMY-WINNING artist Fuse ODG has criticised the BBC for releasing a documentary about Band Aid, saying it dehumanises African people. Band Aid – which was formed by Sir Bob Geldof- released its charity single ‘ Do They Know its Christmas?’ to raise money following the catastrophic famine in Ethiopia in 1984.

Sheeran sang alongside Coldplay, Sinead O'Connor, Sam Smith, One Direction and Rita Ora on Band Aid 30 in 2014. A new mix, released next week, blends his vocals with those of Sting from the original 1984 version of the charity song.

Singer-songwriter Bob Geldof defended the Band Aid song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" after singer Ed Sheeran distanced himself from the track's re-release. Geldof said that the song "allows us to have a cultural dialogue" about aid in Africa,

"Over the course of 40 years, hundreds of thousands of people — probably millions — are alive because of a little pop song," Geldof said on CNN
