The US Army secretary is set to visit Fort Stewart military base in Georgia on Thursday, a day after authorities say a 28-year-old active-duty sergeant pulled out a personal handgun and opened fire, wounding five before he was subdued by fellow soldiers.

Gunfire erupted at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday morning, prompting the base commander to lock down facilities in the wake of this “active shooter” incident.

Fort Stewart is a hub of military activity in the U.S., spanning thousands of acres and housing nearly 10,000 people.
