Sidi Mohammad Abdallahi, accused shooter in a hate crime, was found dead by apparent suicide in Cook County Jail.

A man accused of shooting a Jewish man near a synagogue in West Rogers Park over a month ago was found dead in the Cook County Jail, officials said Sunday.The Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 22-year-old Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi died by suicide after hanging himself in his cell.

The suspect accused of shooting a Jewish man on his way to synagogue at Chicago in October is dead after an apparent suicide in his jail cell. Sidi Mohammad Abdallahi, who entered America illegally in 2023, was facing hate crime, terrorism, and attempted murder charges after police identified him as the suspect in the shooting.

A man facing felony terrorism and hate crime charges after authorities said he shot a Jewish man and fired at responding officers during an October shootout in Chicago has died by apparent suicide, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect, who according to prosecutors had mapped Jewish sites in Chicago, had been charged with hate crime and terrorism charges for the Oct. 26 shooting.
