Roman Anthony hit a two-run double for his first major league hit and added a sliding catch in right field to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony recorded his first career big-league hit on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays (GameTracker), just 24 hours after making his MLB debut. Anthony's hit came with runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the first.

Anthony’s hit was a two-out, two-run double off righthander Ryan Pepiot in the first inning. He smacked a changeup — which was actually outside, well off the plate — down the left-field line. On a night when the Sox’ pitchers held Tampa Bay to three hits and no earned runs, Anthony’s knock proved to be the difference.
