Big Lots plans to shutter more stores as part of the Columbus, Ohio-based discount retailer's Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

Embattled discount retailer Big Lots has marked more store locations for closure in 27 states. It plans to hold store closing sales.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, the home goods retailer has been working toward a "more focused footprint."

The discount retailer added its Kingston, Middletown and Wappingers Falls locations to its closure list as it goes through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Big Lots store located at the Machesney Town Center is one of 56 stores across 27 states that the retailer will shutter as part of its bankruptcy. The Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and has since set 500 of its stores to close.

The retailer operates 1,145 locations in the U.S. currently. Big Lots has added dozens more stores to the closures list incrementally in recent weeks. Some stores that were listed as closing earlier this year have closed. Others are conducting closing sales with discounts storewide.

There are soon going to be many fewer Big Lots retailers locations across the country. The discount furniture and home goods retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and is currently going through that restructuring process.
