Oh it's so walkable. Where the ships dock you simply walk up and through the ciudad Vieja ( Neighborhood of the old port)). Don't mistake a wonderful luncheon custom dining here but you will miss so much if you don't stroll up the hill and find your way over and down to the other coast line, take millions of pictures, stop and talk, chat, and turn left at the waters edge and go East up the Rambla. Walk it, bike it, taxi it, there are beaches, parks, dining, skateboard parks, bumper cars, embassies, incredible architecture, statues, museums, but do it and don't stop until you reach Rodo Park. There you must get out and discover the neighborhood. Two thee hours spent. Now head back towards the port and find the Presidents Head quarters, the tomb of Artigas, the Arch, Salvo Palacio, and the center of Montevideo. Street vendors and parks with unbelievable fountains, churches, and galleries await your tour. This is the way to spend a day in the best kept secret city of Uruguay. Be prepared to return, just sayin'.
