WEBAug 22, 2009 · well, so far I stuffed 9 of the monster pool noodles in the hull of my PA, mostly in the stern area and there is room for more! I bought all the monster noodles that Bass Pro Shops had left (17). I will use the remaining 8 noodles and see how many I can stuff in my son's Outback.

WEBJan 31, 2013 · I think a Hobie 16 would be impossible to right from a turtled position by one person. I have considered sticking pool noodles into the mast of my current sailing dinghy (not a cat), to prevent turtling.

WEBOct 13, 2005 · Go to Walmart and buy several of the cheap long 'floating noodle' kids pool toys. Cut them into manageable lengths, insert them into the hull port and VIOLA! Hull floatation made easy...they are made of closed cell foam and perfectly suited for this task.

WEBSep 27, 2016 · I'm a big fan of floatation bags, as they can be removed for cleaning and storage, and won't cause rot or mold. If you can build a noodle-holder that is well ventilated, give it a try and do the swamp test again. Otherwise I'd check with the Hobie forums to see what others with your exact boat have done.

WEBOct 16, 2007 · Noodle in the mast won't provide bouancy until the mast is full of water. Sealing the mast totally is the best answer. The displacement of the mast is the initial flotation, the noodle would be secondary. A bob is also initial because of displacement, secondary as it doesn't absorb water.

WEBSep 20, 2012 · I filled the top of my mast with a pool noodle, which was a pain to do, but I really don't think it would have done me much good if I got knocked down. Maybe it would have slowed down how quickly the mast filled with water, slowing how quickly it would turtle, but that's probably about it.

Foam in Hobie 17 hulls and replacement rudders
WEBMay 19, 2004 · I have two questions regarding a Hobie 17 1. have a 89 Hobie 17 and some of the local folks recommend I rip out (in small pieces) the foam in the hulls and replace with the foam noodles. The plastic used to cover the existing foam has disintegrated into lots of small pieces.
